I would like to thank Honda Marine NZ and local Honda dealers for supplying such a great product, service and back up over the eleven years since I built my fishing boat ‘Westernbreak’.

I would recommend to anyone looking for reliability and excellent fuel economy to seriously consider a Honda outboard

‘Westernbreak’ is a 7mtr aluminum trailer boat, which I use for commercial fishing, based at Muriwai Beach on Auckland’s West Coast.  During the summer months I convert ‘Westernbreak’ into a marlin fishing boat, and many game fishermen from the Eastern Bay of Plenty to Northland will recognize the boat, and my other business Red Gill Custom Lures.

Since new the boat has had two pairs of BF135 Honda outboards, which have proved to be extremely reliable and economical.  Both pairs doing 5000 hrs of nearly faultless service before being replaced.  In January 2008 I replaced the 130’s with the new BF135’s.  These motors have exceeded all expectations.  They are noticeably more powerful than the 130’s and they have done 1000 hrs of faultless service, but the most amazing statistic is the fuel consumption.  They are using 30% less fuel than the 130’s.  For all the marlin-fishing addicts like myself, here is the unbeatable stat.  Trolling at 7 knots with both motors running at 1900 rpm the combined fuel consumption is approximately 6 liters per hour.

I would recommend to anyone looking for reliability and excellent fuel economy to seriously consider a Honda outboard.
