February Fishing Competitions
Honda were proud to be major sponsors for three huge fishing competitions this month.
Honda Marine sponsored the annual Nauti-Girls fishing tournament, and the A1 Homes Whangamata Classic and the Century Batteries Beach and Boat from Marsden Point.
Feb 2nd and 3rd was when Nauti-Girls, a fishing event dedicated to women's fishing including 700+ female anglers, was held. The conditions on the water improved by the time the event started and the ocean co-operated to allow the large contingent of female fishers to be rewarded with some great catches. Nauti-Girls is the largest female only tournament in New Zealand and this year there were over $45,000 worth of prizes.
The next competition on the Whangamata Sports Club Calendar was the famous A1 Homes Whangamata Classic running over three days from February 8th to 10th. Tropical Cyclone activity created less than favourable ocean conditions and the event had to be cancelled. However, like the Nauti-Girls, there were plenty of fabulous prizes available from Honda Power and Marine - including the 2.7m Honwave inflatable tender with a brand new Honda BF8 on the back. This prize was taken home by a very happy Andrew McCabe.
The following weekend saw the huge Century Batteries Beach and Boat fishing competition held in spectacular conditions in Whangarei Harbour and surrounds. The threat of yet another tropical cyclone never eventuated and the contest was a great success. Many competitors were able to get out to the Hen & Chicks and the Moke's with some good size fish brought in for weighing. This year there were two Honda Powered Extreme 545's given away as spot prizes, each with a BF80 on the back. The two boats were won by Garry Soffe and Laurie Pottinger - Laurie is the very happy man shown in the picture above picking up his new boat from Honda HQ - he is chomping at the bit to get out there with his new Honda.
The fishing competitions continue into March as well, so lets hope the weather treats them well. On March 10th, the annual OBC Family Fishing contest is held in Auckland's Waitemata harbour and beyond, again with plenty of great Honda Prizes up for grabs. Proceeds of this comp are set to help the Westpac Auckland Rescue Chopper.
Look out for Scott and Mig from Fishing Adventure at the Leigh Fishing Competition on March 17th. You can still enter via the Leigh Fishing Competition website, it's well worth doing as proceeds will also be going to the Westpac Auckland Rescue Helicopter trust...and there is a Honda Powered Surtees 495 Workmate up for grabs - complete with a Honda BF60 on the back.
