Team Honda Marine win the world champs!
A huge congratulations to the Honda Marine 18 foot Skiff team who won the JJ Giltinan Trophy held in the 2nd week of March on Sydney Harbour. The team consisted of sailors Dave McDiarmid, Matt Steven and Brad Collins. Conditions in Sydney Harbour were anything but ideal and the entire race event was exceptionally close with Team Honda Marine winning the final race on March 11th to become the champions.
A 10-12 knot (20km/h) nor easter was blowing for the final race whilst two spectator ferries jam packed with supporters watched on. It came down to a race for line honours between Honda Marine and another kiwi team, Maersk Line. Excellent sailing throughout the regatta and in the final race meant Team Honda Marine were able to fend off all other challengers to take home the trophy and the World Championship.
The next major event for the boat class is going to be hosted in April here in New Zealand by the sailor's home club, Royal Akarana Yacht Club. The event is held in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour from April 22nd -25th.
